When a vacation rental customer sees a feline-related sign in their rental property, their allergies start up like a fever. Except that there are no cats on the property, only a sign.

Before we get into this story, it's important to note that there's always a chance that pet-friendly properties will have trace amounts of pet dander, and animal allergies are very real. However, it's a whole different ballpark when someone who is allergic to a specific animal has no allergic reaction until they see a sign that has some funny animal pun on it. Did these allergies suddenly wake up at the sight of "Meowdy"? Who knows.

I can't speak for the folks with allergies, because I'm a cat lover through and through. There's something to be said of someone who rents a pet-friendly property, which is clearly mentioned in the vacation rental listing. If they have such a terrible reaction to cat dander, why risk renting a pet-friendly property? It doesn't make much sense, but we're not here to dogpile on someone who is, very clearly, having a pretty rough day. At the end of the day, we can't argue against what someone says they are feeling. The relationship between employee and customer is one that really puts situations like these on an unbalanced seesaw, and in that vein, we cannot defend ourselves nearly as efficiently as if we were in the customer's shoes. They say the customer is always right, and that's the business case, even if they are wrong.
